Hamilton Public Library was the first library in Canada to use technology to innovate its open hours. Instead of closing smaller, rural branches, the Library team implemented a pilot project using bibliotheca’s open+ solution to add more open hours and develop a strong engagement plan to better serve the rural community’s needs. Community drive, technological innovation and strong marketing and outreach ensured Board, staff and residents’ buy-in. The pilot resulted in a drastic increase in open hours, programming engagement and customer goodwill. Now, the Freelton community embraces its branch and other neighbourhoods are clamoring for Extended Access at their branches.
