This session focuses on using Reddit and social media to diffuse campus issues. In January 2019 the Georgia Tech Library opened a new building, one half of its total complex, in a project called Library Next. While most physical feedback was positive, there existed numerous issues discussed negatively on social forums that could have gotten out of control regarding the spaces and services. We were able to diffuse the situation fairly quickly and finally by communicating openly and honestly with students and faculty online, then bringing them in physically to meet. Our efforts were applauded by multiple sources on campus for keeping an issue from exploding.
